Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speaking. She founded Feminist Frequency the website which provides commentary and videos on depictions of women's roles in popular media. Feminist Frequency is an educational and non-profit site that analyzes how females are represented in popular culture narratives. Destroying stereotypes about women are the primary focus of her work. She also seeks to bring attention to things like targeting and bullying of women online. Sarkeesian who has an MS in Social and Political Thought with a degree from York University, is also popular as a public speaker. She has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO Festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. Sarkeesian was fascinated by the gender issue and feminist movements since at a very young age. In 2009, while she was still at a university, Sarkeesian founded the website Feminist Frequency. The woman was determined and was planning to launch a web series to study the role of gender in gaming. But, she discovered herself in the middle of a harassment online campaign. Although the incident did hinder her, instead it only bolstered her resolve as a feminist media journalist. Her many notable contributions in the field of feminists were recognized by a variety of awards.
