Taylor Swift was a rarity in pop culture: she was the only celebrity to have crossed from country into the mainstream and become a pop icon worldwide. Swift is shedding her country roots like it were a second-skin showing herself to be the smartest pop singer/songwriter within her generation. Swift is able to tap into the current trend and make it her unique. The first songs she released including the neotribute in tribute to Tim McGraw were a testament to her talent. But, her follow-up album Fearless in 2008 showcased an songwriter discovering her voice, and also a larger fan base. Fearless became an enormous success not just in the United States which is where its Top Ten singles Love Story and Belong with Me helped it to record six platinum albums but also around the world. The album was particularly successful across Canada, Australia and the U.K. Swift reached the heights of stardom after the release of Speak Now. With her subsequent three albums, Red (2012) 1989 (2004) and Reputation (2017) Reputation (2017), the popularity of Swift grew, and she became part of a music scene where it was clear that she was a part of. She stayed on top of the charts even when she dropped her own style on her sister albums Folklore and Evermore in the year 2020.
