Lee Roy Selmon's life story blends the virtues of family football scholarship and volunteering for the community. The first family is his youngest of nine children of Lucious and Jessie Selmon. The family lived on a farm in Eufala, Oklahoma. The Selmons were also among the three brothers who played for Oklahoma on the field of football. All three made All-America. In 1973, Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the starters for one year. Lee Roy is the winner of both Outland Awards as well as Lombardi Awards. He was the best lineman in the entire nation. During his three-year tenure as the starting quarterback for Oklahoma, the Sooners went 32-1-1 and won two national championships. Third scholarship he was named a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon obtained a degree as an educator. Lee Roy was involved in volunteering for ten hours per week while he attended college. In Tampa the Buccaneers, he was a player for the Buccaneers for nine seasons before becoming an all-pro. Also, he began an entrepreneurial career. The first job he had was a Account Relations Officer with First Florida Bank, Tampa. He was a member in the past for Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. The Junior Chamber of Commerce honored Lee Roy in 1982 for being among the top 10 young men of the United States. While a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighed about 256 pounds. He captained his college team in 1975. He was hired by the University of South Florida in 1993 as an Associate Director of Sports. He was named associate director of athletics by the College Football Hall of Fame was named for the player in 1998. GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame, in 1994. Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded their Distinguished American Award, to Mr. Lucious Selmon and his wife. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma gave it to them.
